Outdoor Carlow, part of The Gathering 2013

Find us on Facebook or Twitter

As part of The Gathering 2013, two Carlow-based hillwalking clubs (The Blackstairs Ramblers and Tullow Mountaineering Club - TMC website, TMC Facebook) are organising a three day walking event from September 13th-15th, 2013. All are welcome - the Irish diaspora, friends and families of those who moved to the Carlow region in recent years or indeed anybody with an interest in seeing the "real" Ireland.

Explore a spectacular part of the country through a series of guided walks in the Blackstairs Mountains and the Barrow Valley, both Special Areas of Conservation. Taking place over three days, walks will be offered each day for various levels of fitness. Local guides will lead you through beautiful unspoilt landscapes, with some walks focusing on specific topics such as history and heritage.

The Blackstairs Mountains offer many varied lowland and upland walks with glorious views over the surrounding countryside

The walks in the Barrow Valley are along a serene grassy riverside towpath. Thanks to Waterways Ireland for use of the image below.

Take the weight off your feet in the evening in the welcoming atmosphere of a local pub while listening to traditional music and getting to know the guides and other participants.

Whether you join us for one day or all three, we’re sure you will be pleasantly surprised at what Ireland’s second smallest county has to offer!
With lots of other outdoor activities in the area from canoeing to hang gliding to cycling; with glorious gardens, monuments and ecclesiastical sites to visit; and with several bustling towns and charming villages in the county, there really is something for all the family and plenty to keep you occupied during an extended visit to this beautiful part of Ireland.
