Live in Leith - Love Oliver fund-raiser

The Charity
Love Oliver is a charity which has been set up to raise money to help fund research into children's cancers. It also aims to provide practical help to families on Ward 2 at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh.

Oliver was born on July 10th 2010 with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, and in his 24 weeks of life had a massive worldwide impact as he smiled his way through chemotherapy. He thrived despite his intensive treatment and taught so many people so many things. Oliver passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day 2010 and we, his parents, miss him more than words can express.
The aim of Love Oliver is to raise as much money as possible to help other children and families who find themselves in a similar situation.
The evening is a fund-raiser for Love Oliver. Four great bands are due to perform
The Story So Far
A come-back gig for this band which graced the University and club circuit in the 1980s. The band also referred to as TSSF or "The Far" to their close friends, plays their own unique mix of ska, rock, punk, reggae with a hint of blues.  These guys were around so long ago they don't have a proper website, but you can check them out on YouTube here - http://youtu.be/goDQgd--Wwc or Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Story-So-Far/165818950164463If they did, it might say - The 80s...Jake and Allan formed the band...Donald joined it.  Floppy hair and crew cuts...collarless shirts and second hand suits...toughness and tenderness...love, politics and short stories in song form. There was a gap...Now they're about to write a new chapter. Read on...

Alex MacDonald & Band
A contemporary Scottish folk/rock outfit.  Alex's recent CD Like the River features a selection of his songs together with a couple of traditional songs. It is the result of collaboration with his sons, Doug and Rob, from various past and present Edinburgh bands Flood, Post Diluvian, Red Admiral and Your Loyal Subjects.   www.alexjmacdonald.co.uk

JG Hymns
Jon Green's effort to bring together his love of musical styles and church songs. He has recorded three volumes of hymns which span folk, electronica, and rock, using both new, original texts as well as texts from the past 1800 years. The band reflects the diversity of JG HYMNS' source material: from different parts of the world, some older, some younger.

The Southside Kitchen Band
This eight-piece line up is often cited as the finest bluegrass band which South Edinburgh has produced in the 21st century.  The band hail from: Edinburgh, Orkney, Ireland, Lewis, the USA, Kent, Palestine, and the Far East of Dundee.  Put all this together (with slightly too much electric guitar for bluegrass purists) and you get a great mix of the traditional and the contemporary.  Listen to them on Facebook -
It will be an evening of great music!
Drinks will be available from the cash bar.
If you can't attend the concert and would like to support the work of Love Oliver, or if you are coming, and would like to give more, please make a donation at www.justgiving.com/liveinleith. We'd appreciate donations to cover the cost of the venue hire.
All of the cash raised will go to Love Oliver
Love Oliver is a registered charity - Scottish Charity Registration Number: SC042450.
. All funds raised from this event will go to Love Oliver to fund research into children's cancers and to provide practical help to families on Ward 2 at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh.
