Mary McAleese

President of Ireland, Mary McAleese
On 11th November, 1997, Mary McAleese was inaugurated as the eighth President of Ireland and was re-elected on Friday 1st October 2004 being the only validly-nominated candidate.  The first President to come from Northern Ireland, she is a barrister and former Professor of Law - she graduated in Law from the Queen's University of Belfast in 1973 and was called to the Northern Ireland Bar in 1974. In 1975, she was appointed Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College Dublin and in 1987, she returned to her Alma Mater, Queen's, to become Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies. In 1994, she became the first female Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Queen's University of Belfast.  President McAleese is an experienced broadcaster, having worked as a current affairs journalist and presenter in radio and television with Radio Telefís Éireann. She has a longstanding interest in many issues concerned with justice, equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism and reconciliation. The theme of her Presidency is 'Building Bridges'.  Other appointments she has held include: Director of Channel 4 Television; Director, Northern Ireland Electricity; Delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Trade and Investment in Ireland and to the follow up Pittsburg Conference in 1996.

John Bruton John Bruton, Former Ambassador, Delegation of the European Commission to the USA / Former Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister)
Previously Ireland’s Minister for Finance, John Bruton served as Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) from 1994-1997 helping to transform the Irish economy into the "Celtic Tiger". While Prime Minister, Ambassador Bruton presided over a successful Irish EU Presidency in 1996 and helped finalize the Stability and Growth Pact, which governs the management of the single European currency, the Euro.  From 1999 until his appointment as Ambassador, he was one of ten Vice Presidents of the European People's Party.  Before being appointed Ambassador to the United States, John Bruton served as a leading member of the Convention that drafted the proposed European Constitution, signed in Rome in October, 2004.  He graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and politics in 1968 before studying to become a barrister.
   
   
Richard Banks Richard Banks, Editor, Insurance Day
Previously with Insurance Day (1998 - 2004) as Deputy Editor and America Bureau Chief ,Richard rejoined Insurance Day in 2006. A former Editor of sister title Health Insurance – the UK’s leading magazine for health intermediaries and independent financial advisers, he started his career at Northampton Chronicle & Echo as business correspondent, government reporter and assistant news editor.
Ian Britchfield
Ian Britchfield, Managing Director, VP, Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe Services Limited
Ian joined RenRe in March 2004 as Financial Controller and was promoted to Managing Director in January 2006. Prior to this he was Compliance Officer and Director with Aon Insurance Managers and Finance Director with GE Re Management Services.  A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ian holds a Bsc (Management) from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters in Accounting from University College Dublin.
Richard Bruton Richard Bruton TD, former Irish Minister for Enterprise & Employment
Currently Deputy Leader of Irish political party Fine Gael and their Finance spokesman, Richard works tirelessly to reinvent the economy, restore competitiveness, and foster innovation.  Formerly Minister of State at the Department of Industry and Commerce, he has been spokesman as Director of Policy and also previously served as spokesman on Employment, Health, Energy, Communications and Natural Resources.  A regular radio and TV commentator with publications including the “Irish Public Debt” (he also co-authored the “Irish Economy”), Richard has served on many Government committees including Enterprise & Employment, Commercial State Bodies, etc. 
Richard Bulmer

Richard Bulmer, Consulting Actuary, Towers Watson
A graduate of Cambridge University, Richard qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1988 and is a consulting actuary with Towers Watson. He acted as lead consultant in two projects for the Financial Regulator in Ireland; developing detailed proposals regarding the actuarial certification of non-life reserves and assisting the Financial Regulator with the development of an Augmented Solvency Model for non-life reinsurance undertakings.

Aidan Cassells Aidan Cassells, Past President, Insurance Institute of Ireland
Recently retired with 37 years experience in the insurance industry, Aidan served a variety of senior roles including CEO, Irish Insurance Federation; Executive Director Business Operations, AXA’s Non–Life business and more recently Managing Director, AXA Financial (start up investment business).   Aidan has extensive experience in European and Regulatory Affairs generally.   He acted as President of CEA’s key Single Market Committee from 2000–2004 and was a member of Expert Group that reviewed the EU Financial Services Action Plan. 
Dominic Christian Dominic Christian, Chief Executive Officer, Aon Benfield International
Dominic was previously a Group Board Director of Benfield Group Plc, CEO of the International Division, and CEO of Benfield Limited, Benfield's UK FSA registered company. Starting his career in the mid 1980s at specialist broker JK Buckenham, he joined Greig Fester in 1989, becoming director in 1994.  Dominic has an honours degree in History from the University of East Anglia and spends much of his career occupied in the broking retrocession business.
  Nat Cross, Healthcare Focus Group Leader, Beazley PLC
Nat is the Healthcare Focus Group Leader at Beazley PLC, one of Lloyd's leading Managing Agencies. He has been underwriting US Medical Malpractice since 1992, and joined Beazley in 2003 to establish the Healthcare team, which has now become the largest writer of such business in the Lloyd's market. Nat has an honours degree in Mathematics from London University, and has achieved the ACII designation from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Pat Cullen Pat Cullen, Managing Partner, Deloitte
Former President of the Institute of Taxation in Ireland, Pat has more than 25 years experience with the firm. A Fellow of both Institute of Chartered Accountants and Irish Taxation Institute, his previous career was in taxation, as senior partner in charge of the tax function in the Irish firm for almost eight years with particular expertise in the insurance sector.
Stephen Devine Stephen Devine, Managing Director, Transamerica International Reinsurance Ireland Ltd
Stephen joined Transamerica Reinsurance in 2002 with 15 years experience in direct life business. A Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and an MBA graduate of the Smurfit Business School, Stephen is Chair of the DIMA Life Reinsurance Sub-Committee, a member of the Ireland’s Solvency II Working Group and sits on a number of committees and sub-committees of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

Kieran Donoghue, Head of Intn’l Financial Services & US Tax Policy Washington, IDA Ireland
Based between Dublin and Washington, Kieran has responsibility for International Financial Services and Globally Traded Business in IDA Ireland as well as his more recent role on US tax policy in Washington DC. He joined IDA Ireland in 2002 and is actively involved in developing strategy for the future development of the financial services industry in Ireland and promotion of innovation in international services.
Peter Drewienkiewicz Peter Drewienkiewicz, Director, RBC Capital Markets
Peter moved to RBC Capital Markets in Summer 2009 where he has been working at initiating UK derivative coverage for UK Pensions Funds and Insurance Companies.  For seven years prior to this, Peter worked in derivative solutions groups at Barclays Capital and UBS.
Matthew Elderfield

Matthew Elderfield, Head of Financial Regulation, Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland
Appointed to the Central Bank in January 2010, Matthew will combine the roles of Head of Financial Regulation & Consumer Director.  Formerly Chief Executive (2007-2009) of the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), he represented BMA on the Technical Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.   Eight years at UK Financial Services Authority (FSA), he was Head of Department in a variety of posts.  Matthew previously established the European operations - International Swaps & Derivatives Association (ISDA).

Dave Fagan David Fagan, Chairman, IFSC Insurance Group
Dave has worked in the life assurance and investment industry for 28 years and he has been involved in the cross border life assurance industry since 1993.  Prior to joining Legal & General International (Ireland) as Chief Executive in May 2007, he was Chief Executive of Irish Life International, a cross border life company operating in 7 European markets and is a member of An Taoiseach’s IFSC Clearing House Group.
Mike Frazer Mike Frazer, General Manager, AXA Reinsurance Ireland
Mike has over 20 years experience working for several life companies in Ireland, and also for the Irish Financial Regulator, where he was Deputy Head of Insurance Supervision until joining AXA in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, and a member of its Life Practice and Solvency II Committees.
Sarah Goddard Sarah Goddard, Chief Executive Officer, DIMA
Sarah sits on An Taoiseach's (Irish Prime Minister's) IFSC Insurance Group, Industry Consultative Panel for the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority, and the InterAssociation Network for international financial services in Ireland. Prior to joining DIMA, Sarah was a specialist re/insurance journalist, editing Global Reinsurance magazine and the London bureau chief of Business Insurance. Before that, she spent seven years working in the communications department of Lloyd's of London, including on the market's ‘Reconstruction & Renewal' plan and the establishment of Equitas.

Head of Insurance, James Grennan’s practice covers all aspects of insurance law and regulation advising insurers (life and non-life), reinsurers, captives and intermediaries. Jaime holds a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering, MSc in Telecommunications Engineering and MSc in Finance, and is currently Chairman of the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain.

A public health consultant, Steve is medical director of Health Dialog Analytic Services (Europe) - the market leader in clinical risk stratification analytics. His past employers include the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the LSE. Consultancy clients include: Reuters, the World Bank, UNICEF, the World Health Organisation, the EU and several national governments.
Tim Hennessy Tim Hennessy, Chairman, DIMA
Heading up the Dublin based European insurance and reinsurance headquarters of AXIS Capital, Tim is a member of Group Executive Management Committee.  He is a member of An Taoiseach’s Clearing House Group, the IFSC Insurance Working Group and FSI (Financial Services Ireland). Tim is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Member of Institute of Taxation and UK Institute of Risk Management.
Luzi Hitz Dr Luzi Hitz, CEO, PERILS
With a 14-year track record in the reinsurance industry, Luzi has held various risk management and underwriting leadership positions at Swiss Re, Glacier Re and Asia Capital Re. He was appointed CEO of PERILS in 2009, an independent Zurich-based company established to aggregate and provide industry-wide catastrophe insurance data. Luzi holds an MA in geology and a PhD in geophysics.
Tony Jeffery Tony Jeffery, Deputy Head of Insurance Supervision, Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland
Tony is an Actuary who has worked as Finance Director or Actuary  in a number of companies and also in Actuarial Consultancy. His most recent role prior joining the Regulator was as Appointed Actuary for Aviva’s life operations in Ireland. He is known for his work on Actuarial Risk particularly in the field of Demography and has been active in the Society of Actuaries for many years.
Bradley Kading Bradley Kading, President & Executive Director, Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers
Bradley makes numerous presentations annually to educate regulators, policymakers and stakeholders about the regulation applied to Bermuda’s major international insurers and reinsurers; and their important role in the global economy. He served for 14 years as Senior Vice President and Director of State Relations for the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA). Bradley was Vice President and Director of Government Affairs, Alliance of American Insurers (Chicago).
David Kendall

Freddy was a member of the Inter-Institutional Monitoring Group for EU financial integration.

Since 1977, Philippe was successively assistant underwriter with Compagnie Transcontinentale de Réassurance, and Groupe Saltiel, Paris. He was non life underwriter at La Licorne in 1982 and with leading French reinsurance broker Leblanc de Nicolaÿ Réassurance in 1992. Philippe set up the first LAH reinsurance broking team in France in 1997 and now leads the new Aon Benfield LAH team. Master in Law.
