YOUR DETAILS
If you are interested in volunteering, then please contact us on info@diamondquestireland.com with the following details:
• Name, address, email address, mobile number
• Your skills
• Relevant equipment you may be able to bring along
• The dates and days you can help out (Fri/Sat/Sun?)
• Any preferences for your role, would you prefer to be dealing with Kit checks or out on the event course amongst the competitors? Certain marshal spots may be remote; would you be comfortable loading/unloading heavy boxes, bikes, kayaks? Some volunteers are ideally suited to be that friendly face at the end of the competitors grueling run to the middle of nowhere, while others are best suited to issuing instructions at special tasks, or may simply prefer helping out in the background. Read on to help you decide what suits you. (And it's also cool if you reckon you’re up for pretty much anything!)
FRI / SAT SET UP AND TAKE DOWN
We need folks who enjoy a spot of site construction (marquees, tents, fencing, signage). Sometimes it can be intense, but we love you for it and you'll get a few extra perks if you can help out for the full weekend, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts!
SAT RACE MARSHALS
Happy, patient, enthusiastic types to look after designated checkpoints, giving information as briefed by the volunteer coordinator. This is a great job for superheroes. Competitors LOVE to see a marshal when they're tired and bewildered and need some cheering on. The reward is the knowledge that you're a key link in the chain to making the race run successfully.
Typical marshal activities will include
• Helping to register competitors
• Undertaking kit checks
• Placing dibbing boxes at checkpoints
• Briefing competitors on what they are to do at checkpoints
• Making sure they punch/dib in the box when necessary
• Helping to ensure that the they abide by the event rules
• Updating Race HQ about the racers passing through
• Looking after bikes and kayaks
• Unloading/Loading kayaks
• Cheering on and boosting morale
• Event photography
• Collecting any walking wounded
• Possibly administering basic First Aid
• Being visible to anyone who requires assistance
• Clearing the checkpoint of any litter, lost property etc. After the race has passed through Diamond Quest Ireland run a leave no trace policy
EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING
Please prepare for all weathers. Be sure to bring plenty of warm clothes, waterproofs & sun cream.
