Riots and possible causes
In the aftermath of the civil disturbances of the summer, the most commonly asked questions were concerning why these young citizens were destroying their own communities, stealing from people that they knew and laughing as they did it. In many cases, could it have been lack of empathy as a result of poor neurological development in infancy?
Poor infant attachment
This conference is laying the groundwork for a national movement to bring a greater awareness to professionals and the public of the vital importance of infant attachment.
If we are serious about mending our broken society, we need to give our babies the opportunity for a fulfilling life.
Revolution in public understanding needed
There needs to be a revolution in public understanding of the importance of infant mental health. The neurological effects on a baby’s brain development, because of the failure to bond or attach to its parent or carer during the first crucial two years of life, is profound, and only recently understood. Neglect, abuse and lack of love for a baby can lead to mental and physical health problems throughout life. It can also cause mood deregulation, lack of empathy, inability to make and sustain relationships, a greater likelihood of criminality, alcohol and chemical dependency. Ultimately, as a parent, an inability to form attachments with their own babies.
The future starts here
This is a self-perpetuating, inter-generational cycle of deprivation which can be helped by early intervention and which this country cannot afford to ignore.
Other than the obvious benefit of a happy family environment, and the potential future of these children, the financial saving to the taxpayer is enormous. Children in care cost the taxpayer an average of £1,750 per child, per week. Three months treatment from NORPIP costs £700 - Prevention is not only kinder but a great deal cheaper than cure!
This conference is invaluable for anyone working with families. Please do come and listen to our fantastic speakers.
Together, lets join with others and begin to work to change society for the better. Starting at the beginning...with our babies.
